Babewatch, Uh Bones & Big Tits @ Golden Bull Bar 8/5

Santa Cruz surf-rock crew Babewatch brought their beach vibes to Oakland’s Golden Bull bar on a Wednesday night. Chicago’s Uh Bones turned up the lo-fi and Oakland’s Big Tits ended the night with a little rowdiness.

Babewatch keeps their sound mellow and avoids the serious stuff with their songwriting. This past April, they titled their EP Guys Hanging Out—a six-track ode to hanging out, drinking, and babes, apparently. Amongst the great wave of bands that ride on the garage, lo-fi or surf rock sound, they’ve become a go-to band for all of the above. Some of their songs set the pace with the kind of 60’s-inspired jangly guitars you’d find in a Beach Boys number, but then turn into full-blown garage rock jam sessions—and we’re down with that. “Party Wave” and “Atlas Shroomed” are quintessential for your next pool-ocean-beach-surf-party-bbq-chill sesh-whatever themed playlist. These guys all met in Santa Cruz, but are currently based in Oakland.

Garage-rockers Uh Bones turned up the lo-fi and went heavy with the reverb, backed by thrashing cymbals and rumbling bass riffs. They released a full-length LP Honey Coma on Randy Records, a small label based in Chicago and gradually gaining recognition for recording with soulful, rock’n’roll groups that seem to be influenced by elements of 60s and 70s rock.

“Big Tits is about following your dreams and burying your face in them,” says Big Tits Facebook description. These guys are based on Oakland and did a bang up job getting the crowd on their level as the lead singer sloshed around while wailing in everyone’s faces. Big Tits are great, would recommend to a friend.
