Burning Palms Bring Desert Noise to Leo’s

Last week, Tuscon’s band of witches Burning Palms played a raging psych rock set at Leo’s with Oakland-based surf rockers Babewatch.

Burning Palms shook up the night with a dark, rumbling energy. The droning blaze of guitars and collective uproar of the band’s vocals were loud and sincere. We’re not exactly sure where the origins of witch rock came from, but we do believe that there is something enchanting about their music. Lying somewhere between roots of psychedelic and thunderous, lo-fi garage rock, they’ve conceptualized their own mystical concoction of desert inspired rock on their latest self-titled album.

The dudes of Babewatch closed out the night playing many of their garage rock jams from Guys Hanging Out, including my fave “Atlas Shroomed.” The crowd was so psyched on the beach grooves, that they even threw down one more for an encore. Catch them again for round two at Leo’s with Cool Ghouls and Meat Market on November 5th.
