YACHT Drops New Album, Plays The Independent Tonight in SF

Yesterday, YACHT dropped their new album I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler and will be performing at The Independent tonight as an official Treasure Island night show. Come out and dance!

Let’s talk about triangles. I first found out about YACHT from a YouTube vlogger who donned their classic minimalist tattoo on his forearms like the true fan he is. Their symbol represents a utopian unity of their roots in Los Angeles, Portland, and what they call their spiritual home in Marfa, Texas. We can experience this same dreamland of sound with their dynamic electro-pop tunes that remind us where we are and where we are going. Their latest album, I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler, stands as a commentary for human progress layered with notes of optimism that inspire listeners to strive for the utopia we all deserve. YACHT’s Claire Evans and Jona Bechtolt are here to make us dance the night away while we reflect on our human potential. Their high-concept pop foreshadows what the world could be, both good and bad, without being too nihilistic.

Evans and Bechtolt are incredibly talented. Alongside their music, they design these sick ass sunglasses, develop awesome apps like this, and recently dropped a self-directed music video for “LA Plays Itself” off their new album. Their motley of creative work and colorful music immerse fans with a kaleidoscopic experience of art and community. Let’s all go get triangle tattoos and remember to be cool in a world that too often feels headed for the apocalypse.

Tonight, they’re capping off day one of the Treasure Island festivities playing at The Independent with Sage Caswell at 10pm.  Come hear YACHT’s inspiring lyrics, dance to their fun, lush beats, and have a great fucking time.
