Wild Wing & Friends Continue Celebration At The Griffin

Last week, Wild Wing continued the celebration of their latest 7″ release with a last minute show at The Griffin with friends The Buttertones and Tongues.

Having just released “Underground Heaven/Green Reaper” (Hard Feelings/Danger Collective Records) the day before with an epic night at Pehrspace—featuring White Fang, SadGirl, and Casinos—Wild Wing went on to do it all over again, but this time at local Atwater bar The Griffin. The two tracks pair well together where “Underground Heaven” is a straight-up ripper oozing with frantic energy, “Green Reaper” might appear to be its laid back best friend.

With little notice other than a few posts across the bands’ social media the morning of, we headed to The Griffin, known lately as the bar where Ty Segall’s been booking shows under the radar (Thee Oh Sees, Shannon and The Clams, Together Pangea, etc). It was the perfect place to host night two of this punk celebration.

Tongues went up first, blasting fuzzy punk jams before The Buttertones‘ brought out their oldies-inspired garage rock. Between sets, everyone was either hanging out at the tables catching up or getting the next round. Close to midnight, Wild Wing closed out the night with a wild set of frenzied country-style punk complete with cowboy hats to match. Being such an intimate place, it was cool to see the bands rally together watching each other’s sets, sharing drinks, and cheering each other on. There’s something about this place that will keep us—and the bands—coming back.
