Dirty Laundry TV Releases “Only In LA” Best Of Comp

The LA-based indie web music series, Dirty Laundry TV, is running out of the laundromat and into your stereo.

“Want to know what’s going on in the LA music scene, but don’t know where to start?” — That’s the opening line from the Dirty Laundry TV blog post announcing the Only In LA compilation—a current cross-section of the punk and garage rock music community in Los Angeles. And it’s pretty spot on.

Only In LA is the second limited release by Dirty Laundry and the follow-up to 2014’s Dirty Laundry Comes Clean, a joint release with Lolipop. From dreampop to art punk, this compilation does a really good job at sticking with bands just below the radar. Tracks from French Vanilla, Winter, Adult Books, Wild Wing, Melted, Fernando & The Teenage Narcs, and so many more provide a glimpse into the current musical landscape defining the LA DIY right now. Not to mention, many of these acts have also played a Dirty Laundry event or two so their inclusion is not without coincidence. In fact, we only found out about this last Friday at the Dirty Penni Fest Pre-Party at local hangout Non Plus Ultra, where Guantanamo Baywatch, Melted, Tongues, and Clit Kat kicked off the event (more pictures here).

We caught up with Michael Grodner, who runs Dirty Laundry TV, to find out more about the release. “The reason I put together this compilation is because I know so many great local bands/artists that aren’t necessarily on labels, but that deserve a wider audience beyond the LA area,” says Grodner. “I thought that, since Dirty Laundry TV, the web series, has followers all over the country and the world—maybe I can help these artists expand their reach a bit. We plan on doing one or more cassette release shows in the coming months—so stay tuned.”
