Oakland’s Night Shapes and Atlanta’s Hip to Death release four-track split tape on Wiener Records. It’s a short and sweltering post punk experience.
Friends since the early 2000s, Night Shapes and Hip to Death joined forces to record their East Coast/West Coast split tape on Wiener Records, which has been four years in the making. It’s an insanely perfect pairing, highlighting two varying yet similar shades of noisy rock from opposing sides of the US.
Night Shapes kicks in on Side B with a jazzy, psych intro on “Listen” that eventually curls into the darker “What’s Real,” carrying vocal and sonic character reminiscent to that of Preoccupations (fka Viet Cong). Meanwhile, Hip to Death sucks you into a gaping hole of transient, unrestrained chaos with tracks “Reefs” and “Forward Progress.”
